Remember how grandma always said “Cleanliness was next to godliness”. Trust there is a reason for that. If your family is as country as mine, she didn’t say it as clearly. But I digress.
Maintaining your spiritual hygiene is crucial. It is one of the most important practices as a practitioner. We need to stay on top of regular hygiene just in general. If your regular hygiene is in order, incorporating aspects of spiritual hygiene into your daily routine becomes easier. You can do this without a hitch. This isn’t a post telling you how to wash ya ass because honestly you should know.
Spiritual hygiene is about keeping yourself clean spiritually. Keeping miasma off you. The easiest way to think of miasma is to consider it as a dark negative aura. Some of you might be able to see it physically but you can feel its effects.
Physical Effects
Physical effects of being spiritually dirty can affect all areas of your life, especially your health. Being sick constantly and often can be a sign that a spiritual bath is needed. Key here is a sign to get a reading done to confirm, do not substitute this for medical advice.
In my personal experience spiritual baths along with medical intervention helped. Going to just the doctor was not giving me the results desired. I got upset, stopped going and started turning to the spirits and wanted them to give it. They told me to go back to the doctor and to follow the appointments with a bath. Baby I understood right then that I needed both. Each appointment they told me to take a different bath, so when you consult your spirits check in often.
Other physical effects can be excessively tiredness, feeling like you haven’t slept or having a hard time staying awake. It can cause body aches. It honestly affects everyone differently.
Mental Effects
Poor spiritual hygiene just like physical hygiene can affect you mentally. When you’re not showering and taking care of yourself regularly you start to feel depressed. Ever been rushing, forgot your deodorant and was worried about stinking the rest of the day? Now you have anxiety. Afterwards you double check to make sure you have deodorant on because you never want to be that stinky person. That’s PTSD now entering the group chat.
A lot of people don’t always realize this fact. The mental effects can now leak into other areas of your life, such as your social life.
Social Effects
We are not about to act like we are saints here. I know at least one person will act like they don’t do these things. However, if I hold a mirror up, I am sure you’re guilty of it. Even if it’s just once.
You ever been around someone and they are always funky. Nice as hell but stinky as shit? Smells so bad that you can’t overlook it no matter how nice they are? Believe it or not, when your spirit is dirty it’s the same thing.
When you’re around someone, and that person hasn’t done anything. They haven’t said anything, but you are uneasy around them. Your spirit can smell their spirit and their spirit stinks. They might be nice but they need to go wash up. And quickly.
Ways to get clean
- Start with a drastic change.
- This might be dramatic however depending on the lifestyle you currently live its going to feel like a huge shit.
- Home
- Deep clean your home inside and out. Baseboards, old papers, etc. Things that you might not have noticed that needed cleaning needs to be cleaned. Dust everything including behind that tv and the tops of them curtain rods.
- Remove clothes with holes, also any that are too big or too small.
- If you have a storage area, clean and declutter that as well. No sense in hoarding anything that’s not needed.
- Smoke the house out once everything is done.
- Yourself
- Do a head wash.
- A white bath for a week if you have never done one. If you have, ask your spirits.
- Do a foot wash in any kind of spiritual bath that you feel compelled.
- You don’t have to do this in any kind of order but I would not do all three at once.
- Car
- Clean your car and deep clean it. Vacuum the floors and shampoo the seats.
- I personally believe in smoke cleansing the car the same way I do the house.
- Friends and Family
- Remove those who don’t need to be around. Ask your spirits to show you if you’re unsure or unable to accept that certain people need to be removed.
- Phone
- Clear out unneeded things off your phone. Remove contacts of people that you don’t need to be in contact with. Delete old screenshots. No sense in keeping apps that aren’t being used.
Ways to stay clean
- Build a realistic routine.
- Change it up as often as needed. You need something that fits your schedule and your needs as best as possible.
- Cleanse yourself off with something daily. It is best practice to switch up the products you use regularly. This way the miasma around you doesn’t get used to it. This can be Florida water, effun powder, a cigar, it can even be an egg, just something to wipe yourself down with real quick.
- You want to be taking a spiritual bath regularly. How often that is, varies from person to person so consult your spirits or elders if you have them.
- Keep your head up.
- This sounds silly I know however there is plenty of spiritual lore and physiological research behind people who are always keeping their heads down vs those who keep them up.
- Be careful of who you have in your home.
- Throwing parties and things in your home might not be a good idea especially if people you don’t know might be coming.
- If you have an off feeling about someone it doesn’t matter how long you’ve known them. Don’t let them over.
- Keep your house clean. Your home is a reflection of your mind.
- Keep your altar clean. It’s a reflection of your relationship with your spirits.
- Watch who you have around you in general.
- If you work in an environment where you work with the general public you might need to clean yourself more often to remove certain energies off of you.
- Regularly do resets.
- Resets are kinda like deep cleans, the ones you do weekly are different from the ones you do seasonally and yearly.
How to tell if your getting dirty
Once you’re used to being spiritually clean, you can feel it and your life will reflect it. Sometimes when things become a routine, we fall off that routine. You might not see the effects immediately, but once you do, you will notice it profoundly. Good luck. It will feel like you are on a high and now you’re crashing.
You might notice others around you moving differently or acting funny. This isn’t always an indication so don’t rely solely on this. This is one of those symptoms that can be a side effect to a couple different things. But going ahead and staying up on your home hygiene won’t hurt in this case.
You might notice your path or your road being blocked. Again this can also be a symptom of something else such as not keeping your promise. But going ahead and staying up on your personal hygiene won’t hurt in this case.
If you notice that your head or your mind feels foggy or off. Declutter and reset your entire house. Go room by room and get rid of paper, items, clothes, etc. Anything that doesn’t need to be around anymore. Clothes with holes need to go.
