The purpose of this activity is to create an energy center in your home. Some call it a meditation corner. No matter what stage of life we are in we have good and bad days. Not all of us have the skills to deal with those bad days. Especially kids! They might not even want to talk to you about their bad days and need help. I suggest having it somewhere where the kids have access.
In my home the energy center is used to meditate, pray, recenter, and ground. It has been great for getting my daughter to self regulate herself. It has been great for me because in moments of frustration I can also go and get myself in check.
This is amazing for those trying to break generational curses. My family was always so quick to beat on us. I won’t lie, I repeated that cycle for a minute. But, I have been learning to change my parenting style. I now correct in other ways. So in moments of frustration, I regulate, and then she does too. We discuss what she did, how she can fix it, and what the consequence would be. I do believe in consequences every action has an equal reaction, but neither here nor there.
Sometimes pets will chill in these areas too. They love the energy and the vibes! Maybe they are going through somethings and we just don’t know.
My energy center
The energy center in my home, because it is small. Is at my altar. My altar is on a bookshelf. On one of the shelves, I have a sound bowl. There are different colored candles for chakras and white for general use. I also have incense, bells, and a speaker to play meditation music, etc. I found a floor pillow on Amazon for about $15. It was on sale. We sit on it to do our meditation and to pray at the altar. I do wish I had a bigger one but that’s because I like oversize items. You can add other things you think would be helpful there. Yet, this is just what I have at my center.
My daughter and I picked things out for the energy center together, kinda. I already had a list in mind. Just going to the store with me and grabbing things just made her feel a part of it. She helped me organize the shelf. She also helped me decide where to put the center. We talked about what the center was for as well as demonstrated myself.
I do have some crystals in my energy center. I suggest you start with getting items that have peace as the intention. Peace is priceless, and you’re going to need it in all situations.
Ideas I’ve seen in other energy centers
In other homes with the space, energy centers are set in a crystal circle. They often have plants with grounding properties. They may even include chakra tuning forks. Get creative with it or be intentional. Blue is a calming color if you need a direction. My energy center is colorful because I feel happier around color. Our meditation flower pillow is a bright yellow.
We have positive posters on the walls around it to take in. Sometimes my daughter doesn’t like meditation with her eyes closed. Sometimes she’s there to just catch her breath after a stressful day. The positive posters double as little affirmations that she can say to herself.
If you like mirror meditations add one of those to your center space. Hang it on the wall so its easy access and can’t be knocked over. We know how children and pets can be sometimes. If you like water meditations, get a bowl. Keep it in the center so that it can not be used for anything else. I would also suggest a rug in the center. My daughter has a sensitivity to touch. I have considered adding one of those fuzzy rugs to help her with her ‘tisms.
